Friends kayaking the Mississippi River

Hey everyone, this post is unrelated to Australia but I wanted to share about a journey some of my friends back home are about to embark upon on June 21, 2011. My friends are Rob and Bowman and they are fraternity brothers of mine from Ole Miss. The video below explains what they, and two other guys, will be doing. This is an encouraging video and goes to show what young people are capable of when they share a passionate desire to help others.

A message from the guys about their trip:

"A Wake in the Current is an adventure initiative started by Bowman Hitchens, Max Zoghbi, David Bonnoitt, and Rob Treppendahl.  Our vision is to raise money for two ministries by committing ourselves to a life of simplicity, endurance and humility.  Our goal is to kayak all 2,300 miles of the Mississippi River during the summer months of 2011. We hope to accomplish this daring goal in roughly 60 days.  All the money we raise will be donated to the two ministries that are close to our hearts:  Interfaith Compassion Ministry in Oxford, Mississippi and The Gardere Community Christian School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We welcome you to read further about both of them here on the site and encourage you to donate and be a WAKE with us!"

Check out the website to follow their journey!

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.  If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?  Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." - 1 John 3:6-18
