Book sale, cricket, and some fun

I traveled to Albany Creek this weekend to help with a service project put on by my host club, the Albany Creek Rotary Club. The service project was a book sale which helped to raise money for the Queensland flood disaster. The money that was raised totaled around $5,000 dollars (pretty good for a bunch of old books). This support money will be donated to the Chaplaincy services in Queensland. These services consist of Chaplains who help provide spiritual and emotional support to school communities. Since the floods, the Principals of many schools have requested a need for more pastoral care. The money will help more Chaplains to do just that.

The books were donated by various local libraries.

Just another Rotary bloke helping out.
Before the book sale, Trevor took me to watch his grandson play cricket. Usually, I am not keen on watching eight year old kids play sports (maybe one day) but this was very exciting as I had never before watched a cricket match. I asked a lot of questions the entire time and learned quite a bit (blog post on cricket...to be continued). I also learned a phrase the parents teach their kids before the game. This phrase is slip, slop, slap which means slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, and slap on a hat.

The boy looking at the camera reminded me of myself playing
baseball as an eight year old....always distracted.
(I remember trying to find the four leaf clovers in the outfield)

This is Trevor's grandson, Samuel, decked out in uniform.

I spent the night with my Rotary host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Hudson.
Their hospitality is much appreciated!
Next post in three days!
