I spent most of my time this past week at my school, the University of Queensland. The week was called O-week (orientation week) and was mainly a week for all students to get acquainted to campus and enroll in classes. The campus is very large and is ranked as the 3rd best and most popular University in Australia. The school is also ranked #48 in the world.

Since you drive on the left in Australia, you pass people on the left as well. At the beginning,
I caused some traffic jams but I am a good walker now. |
Since I am an international student, I spent a most of my time in seminars with other students from around the world. There are 3000 international students from 150 different countries beginning their studies at UQ this year. The USA has 337 students while China has twice that many.

International orientation. I wonder how many different languages are spoken in this room? |
I have also had the opportunity to participate in Student Life, which is a Christian organization on campus. This organization is Campus Crusade for Christ, just with a different name. I have made most of my friends through this organization and hope to make many more. I got involved with Student Life very quickly since my housemate, John Mayne, is one of the leaders. He is very cool.
I also went to Rotary event on Tuesday with my host counselor and a few more Rotarian's. The event took place at a movie theater and was a showing of the movie Conviction. Conviction is about a sister's determination to see her brother freed from jail after he is convicted of a crime she believes he did not commit. The sister puts herself through law school to fight the system in order to a find a way to free her brother. The money raised will go towards helping the
fight against Polio. For your information, the movie was very good and had a very strong message which related to the fight against Polio. The message was clear; never give up fighting something, no matter how hard the circumstances may seem.

There were many other Rotary districts involved in this event. It was a lot of fun. |
Anyway, that was my week. I will start school tomorrow!
