Rotary District 9600 Conference

Last weekend I went to the Rotary District 9600 Conference in Caloundra, QLD.

Singing the Australian National Anthem.

ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR
Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;

We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;

In history’s page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.
The conference was a lot of fun. All the speakers were great, the entertainment was funny, the food was delicious, and the people were all very friendly. It was good to network with members of different clubs and set up times for my speaking engagements (I have to give around 10 speeches throughout my scholarship period).

There were also many displays set up that show cased the different projects that Rotary founded and continue to participate in. These include ShelterBox, RYDA, LearnGrow,  and many others.

What makes up District 9600?
South-East Queensland, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Naura make up this district. There are approximately 67 clubs in the entire district.The number of members total 1,803.

The last night there was a Mardi Gras themed party. As you can see in the picture below, many of the Scholars were not Mardi Gras prepared, but the members of course were. Below is a picture of District Governor, Eric Wood, and some other Rotary Scholars.

So, where is Caloundra?
Caloundra is located in the Sunshine coast and is about an hour north of Brisbane.  It is similar to Noosa, as it is also a small beach town (refer to previous blog to find out more about Noosa).

I also spent a few hours on the beach.

It was really windy so there were a lot of kite surfers out.

 Maybe I could try this eventually. What do you think Mom?

 Have a good week!
