ShelterBox, Kenmore Speech, and Parrot

Last week me and some other scholars set up and displayed a ShelterBox on campus at the University of Queensland. Everything went well except for the weather. We had permission from the Uni to display it from 9-5 on Tuesday - Friday but, with the rain, only set up from 9-5 Tuesday and 9-1 Friday. So, ShelterBox was on display for about 12 hours total. All the money raised (see below) will go towards sending one ShelterBox to Japan. This will provide a home for 10 people. We can also track the box, as it travels abroad, with the use of the ShelterBox's bar code #. I will let you know about it's journey to Japan in due time. Anyway, this was a success and we hope to do it again.

Money Raised......$917.30  +  an additional $82.70 from Rotary = $1000.00

There were other Scholars who helped. Thanks Kyle, Kelli, Pantea, James, Summer, and Stephanie. Also, much thanks to Brian Springer, Shaughn Forbes, and Greville Easte.

Kenmore Speech
On Wednesday me and five other scholars were able to speak at the Kenmore Rotary club. This was a special event as there were a total of five Rotary clubs gathered (about 100 people) at this one venue. The night was centered around the scholarships that Rotary supports through the Rotary International Foundation. We each spoke a bit about our self, hometown/culture and future goals. It was a fun night.

This is a picture of a picture. I will upload a better quality photo as soon as I get it.

We were also asked to bring a gift that represented our State. The gifts were auctioned off, with the money going back into one of the local clubs. My gift was a BB King CD.

My gift auctioned off for $40 dollars!

I have a busy school week with an Accounting exam on Saturday (yes, I said Saturday) and a Marketing and Accounting project to work on as well. So, I need to go hit the books.

On a side note.... If you happen to see Eric the Parrot flying around, let me know.

As soon as I saw this I jumped out of the car at the red light and snapped this picture. John asked, "Is that not a common thing to see back home?"
.
Haha, have a good week!
